The Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools (OSDFS) held several two-day invitational meetings to showcase the successes and lessons learned from past model program grantees featured in the new publication Experiences in Effective Prevention: The U.S. Department of Education’s Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Models on College Campuses Grants. OSDFS convened these five National Dissemination Meetings from February through March 2008 at locations across the country.

The National Dissemination Meetings provided participants with an opportunity to hear panels of former Model Program grantees talk about their own experiences of using the core elements described in Experiences in Effective Prevention, and how those elements contributed to the success—and “model” status—of their prevention work.

OSDFS staff joined the grantees in providing information and guidance on preparing Model Programs grant competition applications, including identifying programs that are truly “models” and organizing, developing, and submitting applications for the grants.

The National Dissemination Meetings were interactive, with ample opportunity for participants to apply the lessons of model grantees to their own work and explore whether their prevention programs might be eligible for model status.
