Associate Student Services Coordinator (Alcohol Education Program Coordinator)

Position Description
Norris Health Center is seeking a qualified individual to serve as the coordinator and educator for UW-Milwaukee’s Alcohol Education Program (“Alcohol and your College Experience,” or “ACE”). This program offers education, cognitive-behavioral skills, norms clarification, and motivational enhancement to individuals who are at-risk for experiencing issues as a result of their personal alcohol use.
Job responsibilities include:
• Teach alcohol skills classes for at-risk individuals who are self-referred, referred by University personnel, or mandated to participate as a result of having violated the University’s alcohol policy and/or state law
• Administer standardized AODA self-assessment measures to class participants
• Summarize individual alcohol-related data and conduct individualized feedback sessions with class participants utilizing motivational interviewing techniques
• Coordinate scheduling of participants and facilities
• Collect and compile data regarding program effectiveness
Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited program; training, coursework, or other specific activity that demonstrates knowledge of alcohol and other drug issues; and one year experience working in alcohol and other drug abuse (AODA) prevention or treatment
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in health care services, public health, health education, health promotion, community health, one of the mental health professions (Psychology, Social Work, or Counseling), or a closely related field of study from an accredited program; pertinent professional experience in higher education; Training in, or experience delivering, motivational interviewing; Experience with teaching classes or leading groups; experience administering AODA interventions.
Preferred Abilities and Skills:
Strong communication skills, excellent organizational skills, careful attention to detail, and the ability to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously, the ability to make decisions on a daily basis under general supervision.
Anticipated start date is April 1, 2010 (negotiable). Salary is negotiable and commensurate with qualifications. Excellent fringe benefits, including vacation and sick leave benefits. The Norris Health Center operates 8:00 AM-4:45 PM, Monday through Friday, although the flexibility to work some evening and weekend hours may be required.
