HEC/News—Alcohol, Other Drug, and Violence-Related News and Information
This page offers these frequently updated news features:
Higher Education Center News Service (HEC/News). The Center provides this service as a way to disseminate news and information related to alcohol and other drug abuse and violence (AODV) prevention on campus and in surrounding communities. Subscribers receive up to three news stories daily, helping to keep them up-to-date on the latest issues and concerns around college AODV prevention across the country.
In addition to receiving the latest news stories, every Friday HEC/News subscribers receive the following:
Incidents - A weekly compilation of news reports concerning college student deaths, injuries, and arrests
Campus Press Watch - A weekly compilation of college and university press accounts of alcohol, other drug, and violence issues on their own campuses
Announcements - Weekly announcements, including upcoming conferences and events, new resources and publications, and job opportunities in the AODV prevention field
HEC/News Digest. In this alternate digest format, subscribers receive a single, weekly e-mail containing all the information received in the daily format.
Subscribe to the HEC/News service or update your subscription preferences here.
The HEC/News service is an announcement list; it is not a forum for discussion about the issues raised in the articles. To discuss a HEC/News article with colleagues in the field, send a message to DrugHiEd, an electronic discussion list for substance abuse prevention in higher education. To subscribe to DrugHiEd, send an e-mail to drughied-subscribe@googlegroups.com and request to be added. An archive of DrugHiEd discussions is available on the Center’s Web site.
Higher Education Center Press Releases. This page contains a catalog of Center press releases.
Higher Education Center in the Press. This page contains a compilation of the Web-based and digital press in which the Center appears.
News from Join Together. This Web site is a news database that covers alcohol, tobacco, and other drug stories and is updated daily. With a more general focus than higher education, it is presented in special collaboration with Join Together Online as part of a project to build a national network of substance abuse–related databases and other resources on the Web.
