Texas Christian University

Dear Parent:

The use of alcohol and other drugs is a significant problem in our contemporary society. We anticipate that it is of special interest to you as the parent of a student entering college. Accordingly, we would like you to be aware, and to be assured that your son or daughter is aware, of what this University is doing to address the problem.

TCU policies, as well as Texas state law, prohibit the consumption of alcohol by students under twenty-one years of age. These policies also prohibit sale or possession of controlled substances. The Student Affairs works diligently to enforce these policies, which are outlined in detail in the Parents Handbook. We encourage you to become familiar with both our policies and the penalties for their violation, and to discuss them with your student prior to coming to campus. To aid you in the process of discussing substance abuse issues with your student, we hope you find the accompanying guide helpful.

In addition to regulations, and perhaps more importantly, TCU has an active Alcohol and Drug Education Center which plays a significant role in enhancing the living and learning environment of the campus. Education and prevention programs with regard to substance abuse have dramatically increased in recent years, and TCU’s efforts in this regard have been recognized nationally. The continuing improvement of the Center’s activates is tangible evidence of TCU’s commitment to the goal of creating an environment that promotes wellness, discourages substance abuse, and offers assistance to students who have become harmfully involved. We are convinced that our efforts are paying off for students.

Thank you in advance for your support.
