National Summit on Campus Public Safety Report
This report summarizes recommendations from a November 2004 Summit sponsored by the US Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) and convened by the Mid-Atlantic Regional Community Policing Institute (MARCPI). A group of delegates representing campus police and security agencies, major professional associations, college and university administrations, student organizations, and federal agencies gathered in Baltimore, MD, to explore major thematic issues facing university and college policing in a post-911 world and generate recommendations for addressing these concerns. Final recommendations included promoting interagency collaboration and systematic procedures for both prevention and response; creating a national agenda on campus public safety to guide future endeavors; and establishing a national center for campus safety to support information sharing, policy development, model practices, operations, and research.
