Monitoring the Future (MTF) is an ongoing study of the behaviors, attitudes, and values of American secondary school students, college students, and young adults. This web site provides overviews of the key findings from the survey, specifically concerning youth and young adults' alcohol and other drug use and attitudes about substance use. MTF has been funded under a series of competing, investigator-initiated research grants from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). MTF is conducted at the Survey Research Center in the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan.

The Core Institute provides results from its annual national survey of college students. The most recent statistics are drawn from a sample of 65,033 college students from 157 two- and four-year colleges located in the United States. Results include statistics on usage rates, campus violence, substance use-related consequences, perceptions, and the campus environment:

The Harvard School of Public Health College Alcohol Study (CAS) surveyed of over 15,000 students at 140 four-year colleges in 40 states. The CAS study examined high-risk behaviors among college students, such as heavy episodic or binge drinking, smoking, illicit drug use, gun possession, violence, and other behavioral, social, and health problems confronting today's American college students:
