"There's nothing like hearing it from the horse's mouth, and beginning this fall students at the University of South Carolina Upstate will be learning from fellow students about the dangers involved with the misuse of alcohol."

"The university was one of 10 institutions recently chosen by the National College Athletic Association (NCAA) to receive a $30,000 three-year grant as part of the NCAA's CHOICES program. For USC Upstate, a peer education training component was one of the alluring aspects of the initiative, which targets high-risk campus populations such as student-athletes, freshmen and members of Greek organizations."

"'The peer mentor aspect of it, especially with our student-athletes, we thought was the most valuable and critical for educating our new student-athletes,' said Louise Ericson, associate athletics director for academics, who helped write the grant proposal. ..."
