"University of Pittsburgh student Gene Vercammen knew his friend had been drinking too much when he stormed out of the Oakland apartment at 3 a.m. and ran angrily toward the Hill District, slamming the door behind him."

"'I guess he just lost track of what he was drinking and kind of lost control,' Mr. Vercammen said. ..."
