Council to consider mandatory training for those who serve, sell alcohol

"The City Council will be asked to decide Tuesday whether local bartenders, waiters and clerks in convenience, liquor and grocery stores should attend classes on how to be responsible alcoholic beverage servers…"

"The city's Student and Neighborhood Relations Commission spent several months drafting the ordinance, and the city held a workshop in January for owners and managers of San Marcos restaurants, bars and stores who wanted to discuss the idea… “

"The proposed ordinance would require everyone who serves or sells alcohol in the city to undergo free training within 90 days of being hired. Already available at many times and locations around the county, the classes would teach participants how to tell whether customers have had too much to drink, and how to stop serving them…”
