3) PhenX Project Call for Input
RTI International introduces a three-year project called PhenX, funded by the National Institutes of Health. The purpose of the project is to identify a core set of standard measures for recommended use in genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and other large-scale genomic research efforts. PhenX needs the input of the scientific community in order to ensure that the selected measures truly reflect their needs. PhenX's final product, called the PhenX Toolkit, will include standard measures for domains such as demographics, cardiovascular, cancer, and psychosocial, and will be publicly available on the Internet. To learn more about PhenX, please visit the PhenX Web site: http://www.phenx.org.
The Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Substances Working Group (ATOS WG) and the RTI PhenX team are seeking input from the field on measuring quantity and frequency of consumption of alcohol, tobacco, and other substances, age of initiation and offset of use, and other measures. The ATOS Survey went live on November 3, 2008, and input will be collect until December 1, 2008. The proposed measures are available for review in a Web-based survey, posted on the Survey section of the PhenX Web site: http://www.phenx.org/surveys. Please note the surveys are anonymous.
