The Higher Education Center is pleased to make the following announcements:

1) Higher Education Center's New Publication, "Other Drug Use and Abuse on Campus: The Scope of the Problem," Now Available

The Higher Education Center has just released its new publication, "Other Drug Use and Abuse on Campus: The Scope of the Problem," by V. Ross and W. DeJong. Although alcohol is the top drug of choice for U.S. college students, higher education officials are also addressing other substance use problems seen on campus. Designed for alcohol and other drug abuse and violence prevention staff and administrators, this publication reviews the national scope of the other drug use problem, while stressing the need to analyze and understand what is happening locally. Informed by the environmental management framework, the publication introduces specific promising strategies to combat other drug use.

To view online or download "Other Drug Use and Abuse on Campus: The Scope of the Problem," please visit the "Other Drug Use and Abuse on Campus" page of the Center's Web site: http://www.higheredcenter.org/services/publications/other-drug-use-and-a.... You may order this publication in hard copy (from late May 2009 onward) or on CD through the Publications page or by calling 1-800-676-1730; TDD Relay-Friendly, Dial 711.

2) The 1st National Conference for Campus-Based Gender Equality & Anti-Violence Groups

The 1st National Conference for Campus-Based Gender Equality & Anti-Violence Groups will be held November 6-7, 2009, at St. John's University, in Collegeville, Minnesota. Registration for this event is $10 for students and $50 for other participants.

This conference in support of gender equality will allow men to speak out against date rape and violence against women. For the first time, campus-based pro-feminist men's groups from across the county are meeting together to share resources, trade their best ideas, discuss strategies, and simply find out what's happening on other campuses.
