"In an effort to help students avoid being crime victims, Farmingdale State College offers a one-day seminar for female students on the Rape Aggression Defense system."

"It's a program of realistic self-defense techniques for women taught by certified 'RAD' instructors who are college police, said Farmingdale spokeswoman Kathy Coley. By the end of class, they learn how to flip a would-be assailant. 'We work hard to keep our students safe,' Coley said."

"The RAD program is just one example of safety guidelines in place at local colleges and universities across Long Island and often emphasized to incoming students during orientation. ..."
