Regents to vote on disciplining students for off-campus actions

"University of Wisconsin System students could be disciplined for off-campus bad behavior if their violations are both 'serious and repeated,' according to new rules that will come before the Board of Regents for approval Friday..."

"Punishment for on or off-campus behavior at UW-L is intended to be more educational than punitive, said Knudson. UW-L staff already meet with students who have serious off-campus problems, to educate them about the law and UW-L's expectations, said [UW-La Crosse Dean of Students Paula] Knudson."

"These policy changes allow them to address issues through the campus 'code of conduct,' a set of disciplinary procedures in the case of non-academic misconduct..."

"'[UW-L Chancellor Joe] Gow and Knudson said the changes are intended for serious offenses - such as domestic violence, sexual assault or repetitive alcohol violations that endanger life, Knudson said...'"
