"Three popular drugs - one that mimics marijuana and two that are potent stimulants - will become illegal under state law Wednesday."

"Health officials applaud the ban, hoping it will reduce the number of people who get sick from the drugs or do dangerous things while under their effects."

"The synthetic marijuana, often called spice, has been sold in tobacco shops. It's often labeled as 'incense.' The stimulants, mephredone and MDPV (short for methylenedioxypryovalerone), are often labeled as bath salts. The two drugs may be combined in the same package. They have effects similar to cocaine, officials say. ..."
