UI taps into booze-free evenings

"Recently, UI allocated $50,000 to support late night alcohol-free activities. Students pitch the idea, and if approved, UI funds it. The catch is this: The activities can start no earlier than 10 p.m. and end no earlier than 1 a.m. on Thursday, Friday or Saturday night."
"'Fewer students, drinking on fewer nights and drinking less when they do,' said Tom Rocklin, UI interim vice president for student services, about UI's goal. 'It is important to have a lively night life that doesn't have alcohol.'"
"This is good news for some students who don't necessarily want to drink but often do so because that's where friends are hanging out."
