UNCA hires emergency coordinator

"UNC Asheville has hired a director of emergency management, reflecting a growing push on campuses nationwide to prepare for the next school shooting, natural disaster or disease outbreak."

"[Sylvia] Farrington, who started this week in an interim role, has been a reservist with the Federal Emergency Management Agency since 1996, deploying during catastrophic events to do community outreach and planning for recovery."

"She said UNCA recognizes that after the 'Virginia Tech shooting, natural disasters and what we're now facing as a nation with the pandemic flu, that it is our responsibility to maximize any and all resources that we have,' to protect students and employees. ..."
