April 4, 2008
As announced in the Federal Register on April 1, 2008, applications are now available for the U.S. Department of Education’s new grant competition: Models of Exemplary, Effective, and Promising Alcohol or Other Drug Abuse Prevention Programs on College Campuses. The goals of this program are to identify and disseminate information about exemplary and effective alcohol or other drug abuse prevention programs implemented on college campuses. Through this grant program, the U.S. Department of Education also will recognize institutions of higher education (IHEs) whose programs, while not yet exemplary or effective, show evidence that they are promising. IHEs that offer an associate or baccalaureate degree have until May 19, 2008, to apply for grants estimated to range from $125,000-$175,000.
On April 9 from 1:30 pm-3:30 pm (Eastern Time), the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools (OSDFS) will host a 2-hour conference call on the Models of Exemplary, Effective, and Promising Alcohol or Other Drug Abuse Prevention Programs on College Campuses Grant Competition. Staff from OSDFS will present information on, and take questions about, the grant program's priority, definitions, requirements, selection criteria, proposal organization tips, and the peer review process.
