The U.S. Department of Education has released a new Handbook for Campus Safety and Security Reporting for institutions of higher education working to meet the requirements of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and its amendments. This new resource includes the most recent updates to the Jeanne Clery Act, including the expansion of hate crime reporting and new emergency response and missing-student guidelines. The Handbook is designed to help campus professionals better understand how to apply the law proactively. This edition replaces the 2005 document, Handbook for Campus Crime Reporting.

The new Handbook is available for download online. Further information can be found on the Department of Education’s Campus Security Web site.
