Addiction in Alabama

Other figures relating to the rates of substance abuse and addiction treatment in Alabama include:

  • Over 15,000 people checked into a drug and alcohol addiction treatment program in Alabama in 2011
  • The state had a total of 147 drug rehabs in 2011 according to the NSSTS - the National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services for Alabama
  • Only about 103 of all the addiction treatment programs in the state provided drug rehab services while an additional 33 were focused on dual diagnosis treatment for both addiction and a co-occurring mental health or medical disorder
  • Over 4,700 residents of Alabama were enrolled in a drug rehab program in 2011 for alcohol and drug abuse while an additional 9,810 received similar treatment for drug abuse only; another 1,359 checked into such a program for alcohol use disorders only
