Alcohol and Drug Rehab Centers in Connecticut

The drug crisis being reported across the country has not spared Connecticut. In fact, the rates of substance abuse and addiction in this state continue mirroring many other figures reported in other states.

Addiction in Connecticut

Today, opioids are the main substances of abuse that have been causing problems in this state. This is particularly true due to the rising numbers of opioid overdose deaths being reported here.

In 2010, however, SAMHSA or the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services - reported that only 51,983 received addiction treatment and rehabilitation services. This goes to show just how serious the drug abuse problem has become in this state.

But what other substances are commonly abused in Connecticut? Consider the following list:

  • Alcohol
  • Cocaine
  • Heroin
  • Marijuana
  • Prescription drugs

Although this might seem like a small list, it is not that small when you consider the total number of overdose deaths reported in Connecticut. In 2017, for instance, the OCME - the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner reported that more than 1,000 residents died as a result of an overdose death. This was about 3 overdose deaths being reported in a single day.

Additionally, other figures show that the state has one of the worse overdose death crisis involving opioids in the country. In 2012, it was 50th with respect to these overdose deaths but rose to the 12th spot just 3 years later.

It is now believed that most of these overdose deaths are linked to legal opioids such as OxyContin and Vicodin and illicit drugs like fentanyl and heroin - and all of these drugs are increasingly available in Connecticut.

Similarly, both cocaine and crack cocaine continue contributing to the number of overdose deaths reported here. Over 2900 deaths were, for instance, linked to cocaine in Connecticut from 2012 to 2017.

Addiction Treatment in Connecticut

Luckily, the state has a wide variety of addiction treatment and rehabilitation programs that can help you overcome your substance use disorder and any other co-occurring mental health disorders that you may also have been diagnosed with.

Most of these programs offer highly customized and individualized recovery plans that can help you deal with the specific effects and consequences that you have been struggling with as a result of your dependence on drugs and alcohol.

Additionally, these programs can address all the physical and mental health that you may also have. By so doing, they can effectively increase your ability to overcome your dual diagnosis - if you have received one.

Reports from 2006 showed that the state had a total of 209 programs providing addiction treatment services. Only 25 percent of these facilities provided medically managed detox services. At the same time, however, over 2/3rds of these centers were providing their services free of charge.

Some of the services that are on offer from these drug rehabs include:

  • 12-step facilitation
  • Aftercare support
  • Detoxification
  • Dialectical behavior therapy
  • Inpatient rehab
  • Long term drug rehab
  • Outpatient individual counseling

  • Short term alcohol and drug rehab
