Alcohol and Drug Rehab Centers in Oregon

Oregon is like any other American state in the sense that there are many different addictive substances of abuse here. These substances often lead to the development of substance use disorders, among many other health conditions.

Addiction in Oregon

However, it seems that meth and heroin are the most common substances of abuse in this state. Even so, there are other drugs that you may be able to find in Oregon and which could ruin your life. These include but are not limited to:

  • Synthetic opioids
  • Stimulants
  • Opioid pain relief medications
  • Illicit marijuana
  • Crack cocaine
  • Controlled prescriptions medications
  • Cocaine
  • Benzodiazepines

There are also many medications that are commonly prescribed and abused in Oregon. These include valium, Xanax, OxyContin, Vicodin, Adderall, and Ritalin. All these substances are dangerous and should not be used without a valid and legal prescription.

According to research studies, the rates of substance abuse are quite high in the urban centers of Oregon. However, recent estimates also show that these rates have also been rising fast in rural areas across the state. This is due to the high rates of suicide, overdose death, and decreased life expectancy among local residents.

For instance, Oregon was ranked 1st across the United States for various drug categories between 2007 and 2008. This is despite the fact that TEDS or the Treatment Episode Data Set released a report showing that more than 46,000 people checked into an addiction treatment program in the state in 2010.

In 2006, the state also had a total of 224 facilities providing addiction treatment and rehabilitation centers. This was an improvement from the 232 centers that were reported to exist here by the National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services in 2002.

Other figures show that the state is ranked first for some drug categories, including:

  • Use of illicit substances (other than marijuana) within the past month by people aged between 12 and 17 years
  • The abuse of prescription pain killer medications for a non-medical reason within the past year by people aged between 18 and 25 years
  • Abuse of illicit drugs within the past month by persons aged 26 years and above

In 2007, the state also lost a total of 564 lives as a direct result of substance abuse and addiction. Another report in 2017 showed that:

  • At least 66 percent of all the residents of Oregon knew an addict
  • 10 percent of all adults here were struggling with substance use disorders
  • 1 of each 15 young people in Oregon were struggling with drug or alcohol abuse
